Professional Development

In fall 2011, KCTCS online started a new program called KOILS (KCTCS Online Innovation Learning Series). An open call was sent out for KCTCS faculty and staff to volunteer and join the program. The primary objective of KOILS is to support faculty with innovation and increasing expertise in the use of educational technologies and expanding awareness of effective online teaching and learning.

KOILS is organized into four tracks:

  • Innovations in Teaching and Learning
  • Innovations in Educational Technologies
  • Innovations in Interactions and Engagements
  • Innovations in Course Design and Quality Standards

There are currently 80+ members of KOILS. During the semester, each track meets regularly to discuss new ideas, processes and technologies that may prove effective in the classroom. The group meets as a whole, face-2-face, at System Office once a semester to experience new innovations, network with colleagues from across the state, share ideas and plan upcoming events. KOILS participants are encouraged to hold training sessions at their own campus to share their KOILS experiences. In 2012, KOILS members hosted the Innovation Room at New Horizons in Louisville which was a big success. We look forward to our continued involvement with New Horizons and other events held around the state.

KOILS continues to grow and is gaining recognition throughout KCTCS. We are excited for the opportunity to continue our exploration of innovation and technology changes and additions are made to the online environment.
